The Gregory School for Exceptional Learning Children with special needs require special programming. At The Gregory School, we individualize the development, delivery and evaluation of curriculum so that your child will achieve success. We offer small class size and special needs focus that public schools are finding increasingly difficult to provide. At The Gregory School your child will find that learning can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Our Philosophy

Who is Gregory?

The name "Gregory" was chosen to represent Gregory the Great (c. 540-604), who is considered the Patron of Teachers. We thought it apt to choose a patron of teachers rather than of students because although a common education philosophy dictates that students are responsible for their own success or failure, our philosophy maintains that the only reason children fail is that the teaching fails. Our teachers have a responsibility to ensure that our students experience continual success by teaching what they need and progressing at their rate.

What is an Exceptional Teacher?

An exceptional teacher is one who believes that he or she is responsible for each student's success or failure. An exceptional teacher believes that ALL students can learn. Students do not fail to learn because they are not motivated or because they are not properly prepared for school. "The only reason children fail is that the teaching fails to start where children are and fails to provide the amount and type of practice the children need to succeed." (Englemman, 1997. Preventing Failure in the Primary Grades.)

What is an Exceptional Curriculum?

An exceptional curriculum is designed to teach basic skills in a logical sequence with sufficient learning opportunities to achieve mastery. Our exceptional curriculum includes research-proven Direct Instruction materials and techniques for reading, language and math. It includes the Ontario Common Curriculum sequence for content areas such as Science, Social Studies, and History. A variety of techniques are used in teaching these content areas. An exceptional curriculum also places a great importance on the role of music education and physical activity for a developing brain.

What is Exceptional Learning?

Exceptional Learning occurs at the Gregory School because we pair up exceptional teachers with an exceptional curriculum.
